Battle plan for the road to Caen

Allies

After a number of failed attempts to clear the road and take hill 112, Monty has finally released enough troops to make one last push and take this important position for the allies planned assault and liberation of the town of Caen. If the hill can be taken, the British artillery can be positioned and give support to the main town assault. To do this many obstacles must be dealt with; MG and anti-tank bunkers as well as mines need to be cleared, tank traps need to be blown and the convoy of supply trucks being brought up from the rear needs to be protected.

The main approach to Hill 112 is through a valley flanked by two smaller hills with enemy positions set up to counter any movement along the treacherous roads, all of these obstacles need to be cleared and neutralized. The battle for Caen will take place whether hill 112 is in Allied hands or not, but the consequences for not achieving this could be disastrous.

Objectives
  • Protect the supply convoy.
  • Neutralize MG and anti-tank bunkers.
  • Give the engineers cover to remove mines and blow tank traps.
  • Capture Axis CP’s to use as re-supply posts.
  • Knock out the other two posts on Hill 112s sister hills.
  • Capture hill 112 and control 2 of the 3 artillery platforms.
  • Bring up the big Guns.

Axis

The Allies have made a number of failed attempts to capture the strategically important position of hill 112 but so far the determined and experienced Wehrmacht and SS have proved more than a match for the less experienced British troops. These vain attempts to break the German grip on Caen and its outlying areas have left many British casualties on the unforgiving battlefield. Only a concerted and overwhelming push in this new offensive might be able to break through the Axis ranks.

Intelligence has shown this new offensive to be the largest yet and the British have brought in some help from a few US units. For the Germans this is a battle for time, reinforcements are on their way from the town and if the key position of hill 112 can be protected long enough for the fresh troops to arrive, the war could take a turn and give the Fuhrer's armies a chance to force an offensive big enough to push the allies back to the sea and this time there won’t be a repeat of Dunkirk.

Objectives
  • Hold Hill 112 till 1pm Sunday.
  • Hold onto as many of the key positions as possible.
  • Destroy as many supply trucks as possible.
  • Destroy the big guns being towed if possible.
  • Kill as many Allies as possible and force a retreat, if the cost of lives becomes too high the Allied command will have to fall back and re-group which will put pressure on Monty’s plan to take the town of Caen.
